Every week we have a new list of spelling words that the 2nd graders are tested over. On Mondays if a students passes the "Basic List" of words, they are given the "Challenge List" to take that Friday instead. These words will still follow the "spelling/phonics" pattern of the week, just be more "challenging." I will attach the Challenge list to your child's Monday pretest if he/she passed the regular list. The weekly pretest will be checked and sent home on Tuesdays. If you do not see a pre-test come home for some reason, the weekly spelling words will always be posted here above for you to help study at home.
*Read 20 min. each day! Record your child's time on the monthly Reading Log kept in the "Take Home" folder. Parent initial each 20 minutes read. ~100 minutes on Reading Log due EACH Monday!
Starting after conference week, some students may have Sight Word Lists sent home each week. Please help your child practice these word lists to help increase his/her reading fluency of automatic sight words for 2nd grade.
*Practice Addition and Subtraction Math Facts! Use math website XtraMath to practice basic + and - facts on a regular basis at home. Your child will log in to his/her page with the login code provided to you at the beginning of the school year from the flyer sent home. If you lose this information, please let me know and I can send home another copy for you to gain access. After your child signs in the first time at home, he/she will use the same 4-digit number code used at school to log into his/her account. I will send home + and - practice sheets in a folder for students needing extra practice time using the Rocket Math program. If your child turns these practices back in to me when completed each time, he/she will be tested at the next level to pass, and will get to color in this new level completed on his/her + or - Rocket!:)
*Turn in the "Bee-havior" Chartkept in the "Take Home" folder EACH Monday! Parent signature needed over the weekends! Parent initial in box of any school day your child "moved his/her bee" more than one time that day so I know you've seen how his/her day at school went that day. I want to make sure we are all informed!
